Johan Jacobs, director of Display Search for NPD, said that the market for netbooks is ready for a dramatic growth in the short term due to low prices and capabilities of the machines that make them better than the more traditional laptops.
"It is predicted that demand will grow rapidly in coming years," said Jacobs, citing "a variety of sources, including early buyers, consumers and businesses looking for a smaller portable or secondary to his laptop as well as new customers in emerging markets. "
The seller star
According to Diaply Search, Acer was the star of netbooks seller during the fourth quarter of 2008, with 2.15 million units and 38.3 percent of the market.
Asus was in second place with 1.7 million netbooks and 30.3 percent of the market. Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Micro-Star rounded out the top five global sellers.
None of these manufacturers has released sales forecasts for its line of netbooks, but these companies are listed as a category for growth. Display Search lists HP as the company laptops star in the world, followed by Acer, Dell, Toshiba and Asus.
To attract more customers, computer manufacturers are taking steps that will allow consumers to build their netbooks to accommodate their needs and styles. Dell offers nine different colors, HP sells one designed by Vivienne Tam that target women.
"We see this as an evolutionary category of laptops," said Ted Clark, vice president and general manager of global laptops and HP's personal systems. "Part of our strategy is to provide something new and dedicated to consumers."
The portability of these devices do good for basic office programs and its ability to connect wirelessly to the Internet is a good selling point.
However, the final decision to buy NETBOOK would be based on the price. The prices of netbooks vary from 300 euros 900A Asus EE PC with 4GB hard drive and a solid state, available at Best Buy, until the HP Vivienne Tam starts at 699 dollars.
And almost all prices of netbooks may increase after making changes to the memory and hard drives.
Some weak points
But even some who sell netbooks recognize that the aircraft had some problems and are not for everyone.
"This kind of product is designed to provide mobility and price," said New Dell. "They are focusing on Web appliances, but we are trying to inform the client that netbooks are not good for everything."
Matthew Wilkins, an analyst for iSuppli, said the shift to a NETBOOK is given by its low price, and are designed for specific computational operations.

"We suspect that some netbooks cannibalize sales of the portable as the price and performance between the two is shortened," said analyst Keith Bachman of BMO Capital Markets in a research report.
